Educational support-service assessment in Hungary: what parents and children can expect

Before an educational support-service assessment, many families ask the same questions: what will happen, how should we prepare, and what will the outcome mean? The word assessment can sound like an examination for which a child is expected to learn the correct answers. That is not the purpose of this process.

The assessment aims to develop a multi-perspective understanding of the child’s strengths, difficulties and support needs. Professionals may consider tasks and observed performance, but they also examine developmental history, learning environments, relationships and the support already available.

Important: This page provides general information about the Hungarian system. The exact procedure, the professionals involved and the documents requested may vary according to the question being examined, the child’s age and the competent local service. The service’s current written information takes priority.

Where to check the current procedure

The pages below provide the official or public-system context in Hungarian. Local instructions from the competent educational support service take priority for an individual appointment.

Further professional context

Continue with the wider educational context

An educational support-service assessment addresses a defined professional question. It does not replace urgent medical, mental-health or safeguarding support. If there is immediate danger, rapid deterioration or an urgent need for care, contact the appropriate emergency or safeguarding service.

Prepare for the appointment
